Sam attended the first meeting of the club at his home in April of 1986, and, is, therefore, a founder. He remained active until his death in March of 2011. (Obituary Newsletter April 2011.)

Sam provided several scenes at out current location, 5, the Gym. At Bird River Sam built the bridges. Being from Pennsylvania coal country, he was reponsible for building Mathis Mine #5. He did the river at Stonehead Mountain. And in Williamsburgh Sam bought the McCamey-Westwood building and Ed McC assembled it.

Sam was Secretary/Treasurer until his death. He also did the newsletters. He wrote the club constitution and provided the North Texas Council a draft for their constitution. He was the club NTC representative circa 1987. He started the process to incorporate the club in 1991. The Texas Incorporation Papers were issued 31 May 1994. In addition, the club is 100% NMRA, and carries NMRA insurance.

Sam (and his wife, Jan) provided the green skirts to dress up the layout at location 2, 3200 Washington Street. The skirts were not used at location 3, the Texan, or location 4, the Band hall; but, are in use again at our current location, 5, the Gym.

Sam and Joe B were the primary builders of the three club N scale layouts. The first N scale layout was at location 2, 3200 Washington Street. The second N scale layout was a transportable N scale module was built to take to shows. The third N scale layout was at location 3, the Texan.

Sam had 3 modules, Shiprock Salvage, a city scene and the farm (with Melissa)

Sam built modules which were displayed at the 27 September 1986 Crossroad Mall, and were installed at both location 1, 3301 Washington Street, and location 2, 3200 Washington Street.

Sam helped with building preparation at all 5 locations. Sam helped build the 6 120° club corner modules, which were used at locations 1, 2 and 3.
