Leroy H Accomplishments

Leroy H

Leroy H had been a member of the club from location 2, 3200 Washington Street, June of 1990 until his death in May of 2019. His biography can be found in the April 2018 newsletter.

Leroy was the founder of Hickeyville and the creator of the Granite Mountain scene. This scene is shown in Evolution of Granite Mountain & Hickeyville. Granite Mountain is the club's only plaster over screen wire scenery.

Leroy also built the first town of Dexter, including the grain silo, trailer park, cattle pen, windmill and pond.

Leroy had an HO scale layout at home in a separate building.

Leroy built 2 of the Williamsburgh (city) skyscrapers, and the Post Office. (Note Leroy was a USPS carrier after he left the US Navy.)

Leroy was very active in club activities and he never met a visitor he didn't like.

Anecdote: Leroy's building were noted for not being painted, and having glue on the windows.

He also created a portable Z scale layout. (Bob T photo)

At last Leroying caught on "film" so to speak. I felt like I was trying to get a shot of the Loch Ness monster all day just missing the legendary hands on approach by my partner for the day. Leroy spent the whole day with me at the club house entertaining guests and helping with closing up at the end of the day. On day two he will be at the Plano show doing some club duties. He wears the dark glasses due to a light sensitivity issue after recent surgery on his eyes.

Dexter, Mk. 4

Dexter, Mk. 4 — LeRoy’s latest vision of Dexter is for a slightly larger town with more buildings. The Packing plant may be moved from the wall to about the middle of the peninsula, and most of the engine servicing facilities are at the far end. Since this photo, a new block of buildings from the Cornerstone Merchants Row, block 1 has been temporarily added. Comments and ideas are solicited. Note also the addition of ballast and ground cover to the Dexter yard tracks.
