Moving right along

Moving right along — Jared and Ron are hard at work debugging the N-gauge layout and adding some trees to the N–Gauge layout. Good thing too, because the club was given a vast store of N–gauge locomotives and rolling stock.

October 2017

Bob A and Jared P started updating the scenery at the East Onionbreath Museum in October of 2017. For details click here.

Jared built for the East Onionbreath and Museum the following — logging and mining museum, mountain scenery, mine entrance facades, wells fargo express office, pioneer saloon, grand hotel, and the parking lot.

A quick update on Jared's recruiting efforts at the college.

Last Friday there was an event for new students at the college near our club. It is one of the branches of Texas, A&M through out the state. Jared heard about this event about two days prior to it taking place and was able to put something together for it in a very short time. As a refresher I will post the email he sent out to the club members when he was planning this.

Greetings everyone,

I recently became aware that summer student orientations are beginning and the first one is this Friday from 11-2pm in the Sam Rayburn Student Center. I have taken the initiative to reserve us a table so that we can reach out to incoming freshmen students. Most students stop by between 12 and 1 pm. I will be there for the whole time period. If you are free you are welcome to join. I will try to put together some flyers and candy to give to students. Some things I would like to use for the table display include a tablecloth/skirt, the club business cards, some of the free magazines and the display box that Rob dove made. If we could set up a short section of test track to run an engine forward and backwards that might also draw some attention. Sorry for the short notice but I feel that this is an opportunity to draw new members that we should not miss. Let me know of your opinions and ideas as well as if you plan on coming to the booth (usually they give two tickets for a free lunch). I will keep you all updated if I get any updates concerning the student orientation.

Sincerely,

He made a report of his activities at the event during the club meeting and shared them with everyone. On a positive note he did get some email addresses from possible interested parties. The thing to consider here though is a lot can change between now and the fall when these students arrive or if they do. Many of these students may be looking at multiple schools still and may change to another venue or might not even be going to school this fall. So we will be looking into what we can do to offer up a student membership according to our bylaws, there is something in there for this event but it has largely been forgotten about due to lack of use.

Jared's "booth", and he has flyers, free magazines, a test track for operating a locomotive, sign up sheets, 2 computers that can present slide shows, videos, and the link to our web site. Jared has done a great job with this and got a round of applause for his efforts as well as the appreciation of several members. (Note photo above was taken by Jared and emailed to me for use here).
