It is with sadness that I report this. I missed the notice initially e-mailed to all of us. One of our newest members has passed away.

I have bad news. A couple weeks ago a dear friend of mine and member of ETMRC brought me to your club to show me your great layout. It was Ben D. He has passed away. He died this morning. I have no further details. I will email as I know more. If you would like to call or text, this is my information.

Ben was quite a pleasant individual who would bring along a grandchild to see the trains. He had most recently stated that he was planning on taking more time off from his business and was planing on doing more things at the club with the time off. He was talking about bringing some of his trains and running them on the layout.

Ben was one of those folks that once you met him you felt the desire to get to know him better, he sure did think the world of his granddaughter. I only got to interact with him briefly but he seemed like he would be a great guy to have with the rest of us at the club. Even though we only knew him briefly he will be greatly missed by those of us at the club that had the privilege of meeting him. I am including the section of our club newsletter regarding his passing below.

NEW MEMBER PASSES

Club members were saddened by the sudden passing of new member Ben D. on July 16 at his home in Point, TX. He was 72. Ben had been alerted to the club by Gerry S. and indicated interest for several months before joining earlier this year. He was a very busy man which limited his opportunity to participate, but came whenever he could, and brought visitorswhen he could. He was a fascinating man with multiple interests and very active in his church. He was an over-the-road trucker as well as owning and operating the BCS Sand, Gravel and Excavating Co. He was a private pilot and owned a variety of light planes over his life. His interest in railroads was demonstrated by his restoration and occasionally running a full-size railroad speeder (putt-putt to many). We will miss the chance to learn more about him.
